It starts with a phone. Faryal wants her husband Shuja's password; he won't hand it over, and what should've been a small refusal turns into him shouting at her. She shows up at her mother Shamsa's house shaken, replaying every promise he made before the wedding — that his female friendships were nothing, that it would all stop once they were married. Now that she's actually his wife, she says, he's flipped the script: questioning him makes her the one placing "restrictions," not him.
Shamsa calls Shuja's mother to smooth things over and gets nothing but a mirror-image accusation back — their son has no fault, their daughter-in-law manufactures fights out of nothing. Two mothers, two versions of the same story, and neither side backing down.
By evening it's escalated to the men. Faryal's father confronts Shuja directly, demanding he come explain himself in person. Shuja refuses outright — whatever needed saying, he says he's already said to Faryal — and fires back that his own parents have exactly the same opinion of her. Faryal's grandfather steps in with a line that lands harder than a scolding: disrespect doesn't need an era or an excuse, it just needs someone who can't control their tongue. Even so, the household's older matriarch pushes back on the sympathy — daughters, she argues, are supposed to settle into their marital homes, not run from them. Cornered by that expectation, Faryal makes the call herself: she's going back. Her mother's response is immediate — if her daughter's walking back into that house, she's walking in with her.
Away from the fight, it's a warmer scene at Abu Bakar's house — a visiting phupo teasing him about marriage, insisting his mother deserves a full share of whatever the family has after everything she's carried alone, and openly hoping for a wedding to bring some "rounak" (life) back into the house. Underneath the affection is a quieter thread: shares of inheritance being divided and delivered, handled deliberately and without resentment, on his mother's insistence that nothing be shorted.
That errand sends Abu Bakar to Kishwar khala's house with a share of village goods — and a small reveal along the way. Kishwar khala mentions that Abu Bakar had once helped find housing in America through his connection to Shuja's cousin, Beenish — not Shuja directly. She asks him to try smoothing things over on that side. He agrees carefully, making clear he doesn't want his involvement to make anything worse.
Separately, Abu Bakar lands a meeting with a hard-to-reach businessman who's impressed by his patience and humility rather than pushing for access — a small professional win, and a pointed contrast to the entitlement running through Shuja's scenes.
The episode's quietest scene is its heaviest. Zamil admits — to a brother figure he trusts, not to Zaryab — that every time he's slipped toward something wrong, he's slipped because of her pull on him. Since coming to America, away from the discipline he had back home, he says he's drifting from his faith and can't find his footing. He isn't asking to be told to leave her. He's asking what to do when he can't seem to choose his own direction without losing it.
The advice he gets back is blunt: his personal life is his to decide, but whatever decision he makes has to still answer to what he believes is right — not to what keeps the peace with her.
Faryal going home doesn't read like resolution — it reads like a pause before round two, especially with both families now openly hostile to each other's children. Watch for Habib's earlier promise (that he'll back whatever his daughter decides, "achha ho ya bura") to get tested the moment Shuja's temper resurfaces.
On the Zamil side, this episode plants the seed for a much bigger reckoning than a nightclub outing — his internal conflict is now explicitly about faith versus Zaryab, not just "one bad night." And with Abu Bakar now quietly linked to Shuja's circle through Beenish, expect his family's warmth to eventually collide with Faryal and Shuja's mess, whether he wants it to or not.
